We have had a great cup run and before the start I wouldn't have thought we would make the semi-finals with a game to go. With the injury's phantoms have we have been letting our players play for phantoms while the opportunity is there. We decided to give our others lines more of the ice time because the result wasn't important. no injury's was!!!! Also I gave Steve Wren the chance to run the game for his first senior game, which he done very well. this gave me chance to scout Bristol in case we make the playoffs and have to play them again.
The boys played well and controlled the game with some great goals and Dan making some great saves we took a 4-2 lead. a defensive slip up and a deflection goal 6 secs from the end resulted in a 4-4 tie.
Overall this was a fair result as both teams didn't deserve to lose.
After a triumphant win against title NIHL 2 East contenders London Racers the Peterborough DALROD Islanders faced off against lower table rivals Lee Valley Lions.
With a quick start to the period the scoring was opened by Bradley Moore within the first 4 minutes of the period, quickly followed by Shaun Yardley and Connor Stokes. With the lamp being lit several times in the first period the second stanza started off with a bit more bite from the lions starting two fights with Leon Groom and Dale Jowett, unfortunately for the Lions, their roar was found to be much worse than their bite losing both tilts.
Just shortly after Groom and Jowett being sent to the box for fighting, Shaun Yardley took revenge for getting a slash to the head dropping the gloves with another Islander coming out on top, and for his troubles was also awarded a total of 20 minutes in penalties for slashing, fighting and a misconduct, while his opponent only received 4 minutes for fighting.
While short handed for an extended amount of time Nathan Pollard scored a short handed goal at the turn of the 31st minute of the game. giving the Peterborough DALROD Islanders 4 - 0 lead on the score board.
Entering the last period with a 4 goal lead, Stevie Johnson once again gave Dan Lane the rest of the night off, allowing Sam James some ice time, a second goal from soon came from Nathan Pollard taking the score to 5 - 0, however the perfect score was later interrupted with a goal passed Sam James with just under 10 minutes left to go.
Unhappy with the score and earlier incidents in the game Leon Groom was jumped on a face off by Lions Joseph Weare, with little time to get set for the right Groom still managed to end the fight on top before sitting the final few minutes in the penalty box.
The Peterborough DALROD Islanders have a double header this weekend with an away game Saturday 8th November, and Home Sunday 9th November against Chelmsford Warriors in the second of six meetings this season.
