DALROD Peterborough Islanders – 10

Invicta Mustangs – 3

The DALROD Peterborough Islanders continued their League campaign facing the Invicta Mustangs. Two of their number, brothers Conor & Nathan Pollard fresh from their appearance for the Phantoms the night before against the Hull Pirates.

The period started off with a shock for the Islanders as the Mustangs opened the scoring at 30 seconds as Jake Luton and Kwame Holt combined to take advantage of a slow start. The game bubbled on with a physical edge that took an unfortunate turn, Jake Samal took a hit hard into the boards while off balance ending his game as he needed assisting off of the ice. While no penalty was called, the nature of the hit set the tone as moments later, Jon Bramhall took a boarding penalty at 2:54. With that penalty killed the back and forth continued until 8:29 when Rob McDonald picked up a delay of game call, however, a minute in, Mustangs player Kyle Terrell picked up a high sticking call at 9:26. A mustangs tripping penalty was also killed, and it was a further high sticking call at 15:05 broke the seal for the Islanders and just 9 seconds into the power play James Pentecost scored from Nathan & Conor Pollard at 15:14. From then on it was business as usual. Goals at 17:49 from Clint Herring, (ass N Pollard & Bramhall), and 19:44 from Conor Pollard, (ass Cetvertak & Stokes), saw the Islanders end the period 3-1 ahead.

London Racers – 2

The DALROD Peterborough Islanders returned to league action after a 6 week Christmas break to face a much improved London Racers side. The scale of this improvement was demonstrated less than 2 minutes into the game as Racers forward Stuart Appleby picked up a pass from Captain Matt Brown to open the scoring at 1:45. After building the pressure, the Islanders struck next with Lithuanian Deivid Cetvertak equalising with the assists going to James Pentecost and Jon Bramhall. With a little under 3 minutes to go, the Islanders ran into penalty trouble as Sam Barlow picked up 2 minutes for interference, the penalty kill went to plan, and to ice the cake, after Connor Stokes and Jon Brammall robbed the Racers of the puck feeding Cetvertak for his second of the night, this time short handed giving the Islanders a 2-1 lead at the end of the first.
