Pollards Commit To 16/17 Season

The Islanders are delighted to announce the return of Nathan and Conor Pollard for the 16/17 season.

Having come through the Peterborough junior system and spending the last three seasons with the Islanders they are two of the highest regarded forwards in the league. Nathan started his senior career with the Phantoms making his debut in 2009 at the age of 16 and going on to make over 160 appearances in the EPL. In 2013-14 Nathan joined the London Raiders in NIHL1 and made 19 appearances for them before re-joining the Phantoms and Islanders in January 2014. Nathan played 7 games for the Islanders that season posting 11 goals and 10 assists, in 2014-2015 signed on a two-way contract with the Phantoms and Islanders and helped the Islanders to 2nd place in the league with 32 goals and 27 assists in 24 games. Last season was a case of 2nd place finishes in the competitions which Nathan was clearly not happy with “Last season was a great season for us, but we still have unfinished business. The guys formed a great bond and we played some of the best hockey I’ve ever seen the Islanders play, however missing out on all silverware was massively disappointing and I want to go one better this year and get our hands on a trophy or two.”

Islanders Trio Return

The Islanders are delighted to announce that Dale Jowett, Clint Herring and Kenny Bavin are returning to the Islanders for the 2016/2017 season.

Dale made his first Islanders appearance in the 2007-08 season and has made over 200 appearances for the Islanders. Apart from a brief gap in 2008-09 when he was signed for the Phantoms as part of the treble winning side, this will be his 9th season with the Islanders. He has amassed 44 Goals and 71 assists so far including 9 Goals and 13 Assists last season and will look to build on that this season. Dale is great defensively and is the go to guy on the Penalty Kill, if you need to win an important faceoff or get something going then he is somebody you would turn to. Stevie is delighted Dale has chosen to re-signed for the coming season “Dale is one of the best role players in the league and does exactly what is asked of him, Dale, Clint and Kenny were crucial as a line to our success last year and scored some important goals and gelled extremely well.” Jowett is eager to build on last year’s efforts “It’s a pleasure to be signing again, we have a great bunch of guys on this team and I look forward to winning something this year.”

Coaching Staff Announced For 16/17 Season

The Peterborough Dalrod Islanders are delighted to announce their coaching team for the 2016/17 season.

Stevie Johnson will be returning for his 3rd season with the Islanders and will be joined again by assistant coach Steve Wren. Shaun Yardley has also joined the Coaching team whilst continuing to play.

Coach Johnson is already looking forward to the season “It’s my 20th Year coaching in Peterborough and it is also the Islanders 20th Year. I am really forward to giving it another go and winning some silverware this season. The amount of effort Dave and Jo Lane put into the Islanders is amazing and I want to help them build on the success we have already had. We were so close to silverware last year being runners up in the League and Cup and losing on penalty shots in the semi-finals of the Playoffs and it would be great to go one better this season.” Johnson also added “We had 3 players progress to the next step of their careers in the EPL which is ultimately the Islanders goal, Islanders have a great bunch of guys and I am looking forward to another rollercoaster season.”

National League Structure 16/17 Confirmed

The League Management Committee of the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) are pleased to confirm the structure for the NIHL North and South for the coming season.

The National League is the second tier of senior hockey under the EIHA umbrella and features 36 clubs from across the length and breadth of England, Wales and a club in south west Scotland.

Both respective top divisions have lost teams at a late stage in the planning process. In NIHL North 1 (Moralee) Sheffield Spartans withdrew in mid July while in the South Division 1 Cardiff Devils formally pulled out at the eleventh hour. An offer of a place in NIHL South 1 was made to another team but sadly could not proceed at such short notice.

Owners Dave & Jo Lane's review on 2015/16 Season

Owners Dave & Jo Lane took a moment to say a few words about the Islanders 2015/16 season...

"2015/16 saw the Islanders bring back some old faces to the squad, John Brammall, Clint Herring & Robbie McDonald all faces that had worn a jersey for the Islanders in the past, and a new face, Craig Wallis from the Nottingham Lions. Our reasoning behind this was to continue with our main focus, to train and develop the up and coming Phantoms juniors, along with supporting the Phantoms senior team by introducing some of our squad to EPL hockey. Connor Stokes, Brad Moore & James White all putting in good shifts and gaining valuable ice time with the Phantoms. We also gave valuable ice time and assisted in the development of some of our under 18s."

"We also saw Callum Medcalf who has come through our junior ranks from under 10s’ to this season playing under 18s’ NIHL 2 and also getting a few games under his belt playing for the Phantoms EPL squad."

"It was pleasing to see an improvement on last season, finishing second in our league, Cup final and play off runners up, this replicated our very own Phantoms season. All in all a very successful season."

"A special thanks goes out to our head coach Stevie Johnson, assistant coach Steve Wren and all our off ice officials that give there time to help support and help in the running of our match days. I would also like to thank our shirt sponsors and all of the supports that have watched our games."
