Islanders Squad Bolstered By 3

The Dalrod Peterborough are delighted to announce three players to the Islanders for the 2016/17 season.

Brad Moore was a key figure for the Islanders last season showing up in the big games, most notably scoring 4 goals in the cup semi-final victory. In 60 games for the Islanders, Brad has scored 48 goals and 57 assists. He has also got experience in the NIHL1 with the Milton Keynes Thunder playing 32 games scoring 11 goals and 9 assists. And has played 63 games for the Phantoms, posting 3 goals and 5 assists. Brad reads the game very well and has a great shot, Stevie is delighted he is back with the team “Brad returns after leaving the Hull Pirates. Brad played a big part in where we finished last season. He had a great offer during the summer to play for Hull but due to a promotion at work it was going to be difficult to commit to the training. Brad doesn't do anything half-heartedly and was eager to return to the Islanders. Less training/travelling and one game a weekend will be great for Brad to give 100% to work and the Islanders.” Brad is also looking forward to being re-united with the Islanders “I've enjoyed my time in Hull and really learned a lot in that short period of time which has improved my game a lot. I had a promotion with work which meant I couldn't commit to their training schedule. I spoke to Stevie he had no problem in letting re-join the Islanders to enjoy hockey with not as much commitment in terms of training/travel time. I'm excited to be back with a great group of guys that already look very positive with recent results and can't wait to get started.”

Isles Continue Good Form

On Saturday October 1st, the Islanders travelled down to Oxford for a cup tie vs. Bristol Pitbulls.

This was the Pitbulls first cup game of their campaign as they looked to start positively.

Wearing green in honour of the Avon Arrows the Pitbulls started slowly, allowing the Islanders several early chances on Dibble. This high pressure paid off as Dale Jowett worked hard behind the net, to finally find Clint Herring in the slot for a low and hard one timer.

The momentum began to settle with end to end play and both Dan Lane and John Dibble making saves to keep the score low.

The Islanders finally broke through with a second courtesy of a back door goal from Connor Stokes, set up nicely with a smooth toe drag and pass from Shaun Yardley and Conor Pollard. This line was later to contribute to 3 more goals, in an outstanding performance. End of first: Islanders 2 Pitbulls 0.

Lane Shuts Out The Warriors

The Dalrod Islanders arrived at the Riverside to face the Chelmsford Warriors for the second time this season hoping to keep their 100% record.

The first period was a perfect period from the Islanders. Soaking up a bit of pressure from the Warriors with Dan Lane making some great saves to keep the scores level, but the Islanders soon found their stride and struck first with a powerplay goal. Patient build up from Shaun Yardley found Nathan pollard wide open on the back door, the Warriors goalie made a great save to keep this shot out but the rebound fell to Conor Pollard who tapped in the first goal of the game. Islanders then extended their lead a few minutes later. Warriors goaltender threw his stick which tripped Conor Pollard up, and Shaun Yardley stepped up to take the penalty shot and calmly scored on the backhand. And less than two minutes later the Islanders got their third goal courtesy of Clint Herring stepping over the blue line and sending a shot over the goalies shoulder into the top corner and give the Islanders a three goal lead at the end of the first period.

Cup Opener Starts With a Win

After winning their opening league game last weekend the Dalrod Islanders were hoping for more of the same in their cup opener against the Lee Valley Lions.

The first period started sluggish for the Islanders and they failed to create many cutting edge chances, although some good saves from the Lee Valley netminder prevented the Islanders from taking the lead on several occasions. It took until the last minute of the period for the Islanders to take the lead, after a smart exchange between Conor Pollard and Shaun Yardley, the puck came to Nathan Pollard on his backhand and he made no mistake putting it into the top corner and sending his team into the period break 1 goal up.

Islanders Start League Campaign With a Win

The Islanders started their league campaign with a difficult match up against the treble winners last year the Chelmsford Warriors.

After a dominant start to the period, the Islanders lit the lamp just after the ten minute mark. A beautiful pass from Shaun Yardley found Leon Groom in acres of space, and Groom fired the puck into the net to get the first Islanders goal of the 16/17 season. The Islanders continued to dominate the period, but were made to pay by the Warriors on the Powerplay late in the period. Ross Brears found Tom Wilson in space and Wilson made no mistake scoring and tying the game at the end of the first Period.

Just over 2 minutes into the second period, and Groom got his second goal of the game, after some neat work from John Brammall and Yardley, Leon sent a slap shot on net and put the Islanders in the lead again. It didn't stop there as the Islanders got their third goal of the game courtesy of Connor Stokes, using his speed to beat the defender and neatly finishing off a breakaway to give the Islanders a two goal lead going into the final period.
