The Dalrod Peterborough Islanders are delighted to announce 4 returning players for the 16/17 season.
Sam Barlow, Joseph Wilson, Jack Sansby and Callum Medcalf have all agreed to return to the islanders for the forthcoming season.
Barlow played in his 100th game for the Islanders last season and still at the young age of 21 he is one of the Islanders longest serving players. Standing at 6ft 5 he made his Islanders debut on the blue line at the age of 16 and has been a main figure on the Islanders team, he is always willing to put his team mates first and will do anything to help the team. Sam is delighted to continue his journey with the Islanders ‘I'm very excited to sign again for the Peterborough islanders. This is going to be my sixth season with them. Last year was a very good season for us all and hopefully we do better this year.’ Stevie is looking forward to seeing Barlow build on his previous seasons ‘Big in size and is a nightmare for opposition forwards when he uses it to his advantage. This will be his 3rd year with me and I’m hoping to see Barlow step up and be a role player for us this season.’
Joseph Wilson is returning for his 4th season with the Islanders, Joe is a great guy to have in the room and will do anything for his team mates. With a couple of goals for the Islanders last season he showed he is capable of putting points on the board when needed. Stevie is delighted Joe is returning ‘Joe has been around Islanders a long time and is a valued member of the team. Effort is always 100% from Joe and he will put the team first every time. We are hoping Joe can play a role this year within the team.’ After no silverware for the last 3 seasons Joe is hoping to get his hands on some trophies this season. ‘I'm happy to be back for another season in an Islanders jersey, the room is full of great characters, lots of laughs and it is a brilliant organisation to play for. We have been so close the past couple of years to wining a trophy. This year everyone is working harder than ever and all of us are ready to bring some silverware to Peterborough.'
This will be the 5th season that Jack Sansby will be on Islanders team sheet, Jack is still searching for his first Islanders goal, it’s only a matter of time though as he came very close last season, whilst posting plenty of assists for team mates as well. Stevie was happy with what he saw form Jack last season and is glad he’s re-signed for this season ‘Jack had a great season last year and helped out in different roles throughout the season. His confidence has improved and I’m looking forward to seeing another big year from Jack.’ Sansby is eager to pick up where he left off. ‘We have a great group of lads, and we came so close last season. We’re all hoping to win something this year, I’m looking forward to the new season and what it brings with the new players we have signed.’
Callum has already been announced as joining the Phantoms team, the Islanders would also like to welcome him to the team. Medcalf is only 17 and if he wasn’t wearing a cage you wouldn’t know. He is very cool and calm on the puck and is difficult to play against. 10 points in 15 games for the under 18s last season and a handful of appearances for the Phantoms and Islanders. Stevie is looking for a big season from Callum this year ‘One for the future, Callum will come on leaps and bounds this season and hopefully be a full time phantom next season. Young, hungry and willing to learn which a good sign for a future star.' Medcalf is excited to help the team out this season. ‘I'm happy to be joining the Islanders this season, I am looking forward to playing more for them this season and helping make the defence even better, along with Phantoms with all the extra ice time this season I am hoping to have a big impact on the team’s success this season.'
