The Dalrod Phantoms NIHL 2 are delighted to announce their next 3 signings. Forwards Clint Herring and Kenny Bavin and Utility player Shaun Yardley have agreed to return to for the 17/18 season.
Last season’s Player of the year Clint Herring will be entering his 8th season in Peterborough colours, and is a true leader on the team, it was a Career year for him last season, posting 27 goals and 15 assists in 26 games, including a hat trick in the 5-2 cup semi-final win. Clint is a nightmare for opposition defenders, he is a big lad who is difficult to knock off the puck, and is always getting in the right positions in front of the net to create scoring chances. Coming back this season was a no-brainer for Clint ‘After such a successful season it was an easy decision to return. As a team the bond we have is like no other and I can't wait to get started. It's going to be a tough season with the new teams in the league but I am confident we can rise to the Challenge’ always willing to stand up for his team-mates when needed, Herring is 3rd on the Islanders all time penalty minutes list, and 5th overall on the all-time goals list, scoring 88 goals in 147 games. Coach Johnson is very happy to have him back next season ‘Clint fully deserved his player of the season award last year, he stood tall in the big games and led by example scoring important goals, he gets the job done every night and puts 100% into every game’
Kenny Bavin is returning for his 3rd season with the team. Kenny is one of the hardest working players on the team and puts 100% into every shift, making each game easier for his team mates by making space and creating scoring chances. Last season was his best yet, posting 10 goals and 19 assists in 31 games including 5 points in 2 games to help the Islanders lift the cup in Cardiff. To top off a great season Kenny received ‘Coaches player of the year’ and Stevie, the man who picked him is looking forward to another season working with him. ‘Kenny is a team guy through and through, he shows up every game, works hard and will do anything for his team-mates, I’m looking forward to seeing him develop this season.’ After working hard all summer to get fitter and stronger Kenny can’t wait to put this into action when the season starts ‘I’m really happy to be back for my third season, we’ve got a really tight core in this team and it’s such a pleasure to be part of it. It’s what made last year’s treble that much more special and I’m looking forward to defending the titles in a much tougher league this year.
Shaun Yardley is a legend of Peterborough hockey and has had a great Career so far, with 443 games in the EPIHL he brings a wealth of experience to this team. ‘Yards’ is regarded as one of the best playmakers in the league and is extremely dangerous on the powerplay as he can read the play so well, contributing as a defenseman and a forward for the islanders, in 71 games he has posted an impressive 43 goals and 84 assists. As well as winning the treble last season, he was also a member of the successful 2008/09 phantoms treble winning team. Shaun will be continuing to support Stevie and Steve with coaching as well as playing a key part for the team on the ice too. Looking ahead to next season, Shaun is excited to see what the new league has to offer. ‘It was an easy decision to come back and play for this team, since Dave and Jo took over we had a plan to win and it was such a great feeling to be a part of that. This year is going to be tough with teams dropping down and bringing some good players in, it’s time for us to step up a gear. We have great coaches and guys that can win games for us too, I can’t wait to get started!’ With the experience and leadership that Shaun can bring, Stevie is delighted to have him back ‘Yards is such a smart hockey player, he’s great to have on the team as she can play in every situation and guys learn from him every game.
